Mining 2010 and Beyond conference visits Queensland coalfields

Reed Exhibitions has announced a major two-day mining conference to be held as part of the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME) in Mackay in late July.

The conference, with the theme Mining 2010 and Beyond: maximising alliances, partnerships, technology and innovation for a sustainable future, will be held at the new Mackay Entertainment & Convention Centre on July 27 and 28.

QME – which attracted some 500 exhibitors and more than 10,000 trade visitors when last held in 2008 – will be held at the Mackay Showground from July 27-29, 2010.

“The Mining 2010 and Beyond conference will combine a mix of ‘big-picture’ presentations, covering the major issues and challenges facing the mining and resources sectors, with a range of management-focused workshops and papers,” Julie Boyd, Chair of the Mackay Area Industry Network (MAIN) and conference moderator, said.

“Our aim is to provide a ‘must-attend’ conference that will give attendees – whether from the Central Queensland coalfields, or the wider Australian mining industry – access to the latest developments, trends and ideas.

“We are currently talking to some very high-profile people within the mining sector and at the highest levels of government about participating in the conference, as well as those using and applying world-leading techniques and practices in actual Australian mine sites,” she said.

Soren Norgaard, Exhibition Manager with Reed Exhibitions, said the conference would be a major drawcard for Mackay during QME week, both to the exhibition and the region.

“The exhibition, the conference and other related events we will be announcing mean that Mackay in July will offer the Queensland resources sector a full package of exhibition, information and networking throughout QME week,” he said.

Specific details of the conference program will be announced later this month.
